How Marijuana Affects The Body – The In-Depth Insights

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would know that marijuana has gained immense popularity over the course of time. Marijuana is made from the dried and shredded parts of the cannabis plant, along with the leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds. In some cases, marijuana is also referred to as weed, hash, pot, and many other names.

Generally, marijuana is consumed by vaping or smoking. However, it can be consumed as an important ingredient in brewed teas, food, and oils. There are different methods of consuming marijuana, and every method affects the body in a different manner. To illustrate, if the marijuana is inhaled, it smokes into the lungs from where it’s released into the bloodstream.

In addition, it will make passage to other organs, including the brain. On the contrary, if people drink or eat marijuana, the effects will take a bit longer. Truth be told, marijuana has been under fire for its effects on the body. This is because people are reporting different psychological and physical effects, ranging from discomfort and harm to relaxation and relief from pain.

When marijuana enters the bloodstream of your body, it can lead to contradicting effects. In some states, Marijuana is being used for medical reasons, but some states have legalized the recreational use of marijuana. It doesn’t matter how marijuana is consumed; it will lead to instant or long-term outcomes, such as a change in heart rate.

Over the course of time, constant smoking of marijuana leads to chronic cough and associated health issues. Usually, marijuana effects are pretty much immediate. The long-term effects will depend on how people consume it, the dose, and the frequency of utilization. Truth be told, the exact outcome of marijuana consumption can be challenging to intercept only by checking the marijuana packaging

This is because marijuana is illegal in the US, which makes research extremely expensive and difficult, hence inaccurate information. On the contrary, the medicinal properties of marijuana have gained immense popularity and acceptance. Back in 2017, more than 29 states have legalized marijuana consumption for medicinal purposes.

When it comes down to marijuana, CBD and THC are the most common substances used for therapeutic purposes. In addition, the National Institutes of Health has funded the research of medicinal uses of CBD and THC, and the research is still going strong. Similarly, the recreational use of marijuana is enhancing, and we are sharing how marijuana affects the body!

Respiratory System

Marijuana smoke is made of toxic chemicals (just like tobacco), such as hydrogen cyanide and ammonia. These chemical components can irritate the lungs and bronchial passage. In case you consume or smoke marijuana regularly, it leads to the production of phlegm, wheezing, and cough. In addition, it increases the chances of lung infections and bronchitis.

In some cases, it can aggravate respiratory issues, such as cystic fibrosis and asthma. The smoke of marijuana has carcinogens which add to lung cancer as well. On the contrary, the National Institute of Drug Abuse says that there is no hard evidence about marijuana causing lung cancer. All in all, more research is required for backing up the research!

Circulatory System

When a person smokes marijuana, the THC tends to move from the lungs into the bloodstream and in the body as well. Within a few minutes of consuming marijuana, the heart rate is likely to increase by twenty to fifty beats on a per-minute basis. The heart rate racing will stay up for around three hours. That being said, a higher heartbeat increases the chances of a heart attack.

In addition, bloodshot eyes are one of the tattletales of marijuana consumption. That being said, the eyes will look red because marijuana consumption expands the blood vessels of the eyes. The THC consumption will lower the eye pressure that is meant to ease the glaucoma symptoms. However, marijuana cannot be named the ultimate treatment of glaucoma.

Central Nervous System

The outcome of marijuana consumption rises up to the central nervous system. This is because marijuana consumption helps ease inflammation and pain. Also, it helps control seizures and spasms. But again, there are some long-term effects of marijuana on CNS. To illustrate, THC will trigger the brain to release dopamine which is defined as the “feel good” hormone.

That being said, some people feel high (pleasantly, of course). Similarly, marijuana consumption improves sensory perception. THC also changes how information is processed, which tends to impair judgment. In addition, consumption of THC will make it hard for people to form new memories while they are high.

Digestive System

If someone smokes marijuana, it can lead to burning or stinging sensations in the throat and mouth. Marijuana can surely lead to digestive issues with oral consumption. Generally, THC leads to vomiting and nausea. In addition, it might be processed up to the liver, hence the side effects on the liver. Also, marijuana consumption increases the appetite!
